Week 8 Mashups

I found this mashup on dual maps at http://www.programmableweb.com/mashup/map-channels-dual-maps/date. In all of the reading and listening, I am still not sure where or how to find the API's let alone use them. This page at least provides the links to google maps and microsoft virtual earth. It would be a way to enhance a web page.

Rollyo and privacy
The annoyed librarian likes to maintain her anonymity as well as her privacy. She likes to hide behind her blog. From what she states, people read her regularly and get irritated by her comments. Appealing to the ALA freedoms seems like a stretch. To read her blog, stop here.

Week 7 Podcasting and YouTube

We have been uploading audio files of lectures to our LMS at ICO for several years. We need to get RSS feeds started to actually make the mp3 files as podcasts.

Logging in to Odeo was unsuccessful unless I had to install itunes. It asked for quicktime but that did not seem to be enough.

I found a video on YouTube about the benefits of print vs computer in a strange fashion. Try the link.

Flickr and Week 6th

I am behind on my assignments and adding a flickr account created another log in and another email service. Web2 is tough to keep up when you have to create new accounts and manage passwords. I posted the flickr photo on the Facebook site. Now I have it in this blog.

ICO library is working on setting up a facebook account with flickr photos.

Uploading a google doc to a blog

Google docs does not list blogspot.com as an acceptable blog for uploading.

Week 5 Web tools

I used the docs.google.com to create a text file, a spread sheet and a presentation. It has basic functionality and can work if you do not want to buy MS Office. Zoho seems like it is a more complete service but I did not sign up. MS Office Live always wants your money. They give a little and want a lot.

Social Book Marking

Today I learned a little more about social bookmarking. Since it is the first day, I will try to access it tomorrow from a different computer. I am not sure that I want to install the del.icio.us tools on my work computer. It should be interesting if I can just view my bookmarks. Thats all for now folks. gd

Social Networking

I am really uncomfortable with social networking. They want too much information. I have enough real friends. I do not need electronic friends.

Wikis and Blogs

Blogs let you ramble on about anything and everything. Wikis have limitations like 2000 characters. They also frustrate you when you try to link your wiki to the class wiki. It does not accept it. What is a fool? A person who keeps doing the same thing over and over and expects a different result! I am tired of being the fool! I cannot get my wiki linked properly.

wikis and Wetpaint.com

There is a limit of 2000 characters in the Wetpaint wiki software. I thought the purpose of wiki's was to put up a document and let people edit it. I had to break the minutes down to 4 threads to put up a 2 page set of minutes. I must be missing something.

RSS Feeds at ICO

When I am interested in multiple topics but do not have time to search them throughout a day, an RSS feed can notify me when new items are available. I can bookmark my reader and check it as frequently as needed.

If the students and faculty like to keep up with current information about topics, they can use PubMed to search the topic regularly for them. The information then comes to them at their convenience. They only have to create the search once and then just check their news reader when they have some time at the beginning or end of the day.

How to get CE credit for AHIP

To renew my membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals, AHIP, I need 50 CE credits over 5 years. By taking this 8 hour online course, I will earn 8 CEU at no additional cost except my time. What a deal! Duce
